For those of you who don't know me personally, let me tell you...I used to be a color addict.
Hi, my name is Laurel. :)
I changed my hair color, a lot. From darkest brown, to red, white blonde, and every color in between.
I loved experimenting! Changing my hair color was a way that I expressed myself, and my creativity.
As the years have trudged on though, and I have become errr--uh-- wiser 😏 I began steering away from color, and bleach... especially box color! My ends were becoming crunchy, and the luster and shine that my hair once had, was gone. Not only that, but so many different colors, were built up on my hair-- that none of them turned out right.
It was a mess!
I decided the only option for me, was to go all natural... as I made the transition, I looked for ways to ease the damage that I had done, and started making this homemade hair masque.
Not only did it repair the damage that year's of chemical color left behind, but my hair also started growing like crazy.
Here is my recipe :)
To make this masque, you only need a few ingredients. Some, you will have to order online or pick up at a health food store. One of the things I love about making my own beauty products, is how much money I save. The coconut oil and Essential oils, all together, cost me about $25, and I can make tons of batches of hair masques, face washes, foot scrubs, body butters, and all sorts of homemade beauty products, with what is left over! You will need:
Coconut Oil ( I use this)
Rosemary Essential Oil
Cedarwood Essential Oil ( I use this company for all my Essential Oils and cannot tell you how much I love them!)
Lavender Essential Oil
Lemon Essential Oil (optional for a slight goldening/lightening effect)
Vitamin E Oil ( If you have it, no biggie if you don't!)

How to make it:
In a large bowl, measure out 2 c of coconut oil. Beat with hand mixer on low for 1 minute, then increase speed to high, for approximately 3 minutes. The coconut oil will become creamy, and slightly whipped looking.
Next, add about 10-15 drops of each oil, and a tablespoon of the optional Vitamin E.
Mix well
Last, put into a jar with a lid (needs to be glass or stainless), and store away from sunlight. I use mason jars for all my DIY oily beauty products.
How to apply:
Scoop out a big handful, and starting at the front of your head at the roots, massage the masque into your scalp, working back to the middle of your head, and to sides of your head. Once you have saturated the roots on the sides and front, start working your way back, around, and down, all the way to the ends. There is no wrong way to do this, just have fun 😆Once you have worked the mixture through all your hair, massage into the scalp for 5-15 minutes, especially in any places you would like to see hair growth.
Once you have worked the mixture into all your locks, wet a towel, and place in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Wrap your hair in the hot towel, then tie a grocery bag over the towel, and just hang out and chill for 1-2 hours!
You can leave it in for longer, or even over night...I personally usually only have time for an hour usually, but I'm a bit impatient. 😉
When your time is up, take a shower, and rinse thoroughly, then shampoo. You likely won't even need to use conditioner. My hair is long, thick, and wavy, and I typically don't use conditioner after applying this masque.
And that's it! Enjoy your shiny, vibrant, healthier hair :)
If you try it, let me know in the comments what you think! I use it every week on Friday, and with each treatment, my hair becomes shiner, my waves more soft and bouncy, and my color more radiant.
Happy DIY'ing y'all!
