Okay fellow moms, a.k.a.: Tooth Fairies, Santa Clauses, Easter Bunnies, and childhood magical character fibbers..... I know I can't be alone. Lately, I've really been sucking it up, at being The Tooth Fairy.
My two middles have been losing teeth like crazy, and I just can't seem to get it together.
I never have really had it together when it comes to this stuff, and I often find myself wondering why I lie to my kids about these magical beings that they'll be devastated to find out is all a BIG FAT LIE someday anyways.
I was one of those kids that knew better when I was pretty young, but clung to it, until I was like 12, and my Mom was like "Laurel, that stuff isn't real." And even though deep down I knew it, I wanted to believe...so that's why I keep this charade going. #letthembelittle Right?
But I suck at it!
Especially the tooth fairy gig.
The worst part, is that my sweet little Li Li really took that movie "Rise of the Guardians" to heart. She believes that the tooth fairy collects her teeth, to collect her memories, for good and magical reasons. The Tooth Fairy is someone she admires and a big deal to her....and I'm failing my sweet, wonderful, magical little girl.
I suck!
Two nights ago, is when the latest tooth was actually lost, and I, Tooth Fairy-- fell asleep on the couch. The next night, the tooth fairy didn't have any cash.
There's also a tooth that was lost weeks ago, that the Tooth Fairy left money for, but didn't collect, because she didn't have any fairy dust and she's clumsy... and isn't good at being quiet...and the kid is a light sleeper...and was starting to wiggle and squirm....so Tooth Fairy had to abort the mission of gathering the actual tooth.
Then there's all the teeth the tooth fairy couldn't find, because Li Li is smart, and she hides them good, just to see how good the tooth fairy really is.
I try to explain that Tooth Fairy is a busy lady, and although she's super magical and all, she's not flippin' psychic. She expects the tooth to be under the pillow.
Seriously child, you're killin' me smalls.
Lately, Tooth Fairy has sucked so much, that Lezlie is starting to believe that she doesn't want the memories in her teeth anymore.
:( I told her that can't possibly be so. Tooth Fairy must just be super busy lately, and her mind must be frazzled. Maybe the dog got after her. Maybe she was short on money. Maybe she was sick. Who knows. But she's definitely real.
"Lezlie, I am so sorry. I've been fighting important battles. Collecting your memories is part of it, make the best ones you can." -Tooth Fairy
