*I purchased the books and am not being paid to write this review.

We have officially embarked on a new year of adventure; home school started a few weeks ago for us.  Although learning never really ceases--for anyone--especially kids, I always look forward to spending a day without distractions and just soaking up the good stuff, by good stuff, I mostly
mean BOOKS!

By distractions, I mean tablets, phones, video games, YouTube, and TV. Not that these things are bad, but they take us away from experience, knowledge, and soul food that would be more beneficial

This year, we got a few new workbooks and mixed them in with a few old ones.  We also visit the library a few times a week and check out books on current interests, and different topics and subjects.  Our local library is an awesome resource!

The books I'll be talking about in this post are books the kiddos actually work in.
As we row along in our homeschool journey, I learn more and more.  The most valuable lesson I've learned thus far is to incorporate kid's interests into learning.  Who said learning can't be fun!?

Kylie's main interest, is horses.  Lezlie's current obsession is Minecraft,  and Chase is still enthralled in the world of dinosaurs as he's been since he was a wee tot.

Aside from these subjects, we use Math-U-See for the littles and Kylie's math is a little thrown together, but consists of online practice thorough various websites, Life of Fred, and various other books we've used throughout the years. We enjoy reading and submerse ourselves into nature to gain knowledge and skills in God's world, science, geography, social studies, and history.

The first book, that I am most excited to have discovered is a workbook that incorporates Minecraft!   If you have a kiddo who loves Minecraft, get them this book!  Even if you don't homeschool.  Any kid can benefit from it.  This book is an all-in-one curriculum, with the exception of Math.
We do a little extra Language Arts practice and add in some other things on various days, but the book really does have a little bit of every subject!  Not only that, but it is self taught type of stuff.  Like, your kid isn't going to need your help with much, and they are likely to do page after page happily.

What they are getting practice in:
  • Problem solving skills
  • Social Studies
  • Geography
  • Identifying their thoughts and feelings
  • Planning
  • Goal shaping and building
  • Writing (lots of writing!)
  • Reading
  • Art
  • and of course, Minecrafting
The main thing I am loving about this book is the planning.  It helps kids in this age range to problem solve, and take responsibility for their responsibilities!

This particular book is geared for ages 9-12 years.  It is highly recommended for kids with ADHD, Dyslexia, Asperger's Syndrome, and Autism because it's considered, "busy work."  It keeps the kiddo focused on the task at hand, by breaking it up into short lessons on different subjects. My daughter doesn't have any of these conditions, but she does enjoy using this book.  It keeps her in the zone.  If a child is to get all the subjects in a day, ten pages should be completed..  My daughter usually does five since we do a lot of reading and nature studies and such.

Here are some examples from Lezlie's workbook.....

The next book we are loving learning in, is one I ordered for my twelve-year-old daughter.
It's the "All About Horses Homeschooling Journal"  My kid LOVES horses. Always has.  This book mostly inspires creativity.  The pages are very thick and good quality, which is good because there are lots of beautiful pictures to color.  It gives step by step instructions for drawing horses,  and also has awesome writing prompts.

It has a page at the beginning of each lesson to write down goals and dreams, a quote or verse of your choice, and a space for your To-Do List.   In order to make the most of the book, the child should be checking out books from the library(or buying) to learn facts about horses and other topics of interest.  We've really enjoyed it so far.  Aside from all the creativity it inspires, her handwriting is getting better as well :)  Lots of writing that she doesn't mind doing because it's about her fav thing ever-- HORSES.

If you have or know a kiddo who LOVES horses, check this workbook out!

What it offers:
  •  Reading
  • Writing
  • Art (drawing)
  • Handwriting Practice
  • Goal setting
  • Planning

The next book that I'm going to recommend I cannot speak highly enough of!  Offered by National Geographic, these workbooks are totally awesome activity books that are well worth the money.  These are less than $6 from Amazon!

National Geographic offers a variety of these sticker activity books for different interests and topics, but my boy just so happens to LOVE dinosaurs.

He is one smart little guy when it comes to dino facts.  I've done my best to foster this love and I gotta say, he makes me pretty proud. When kids like something, incorporate it into their learning in any way you can, you won't regret it!  Aside from having fun while learning about said interest, they'll be writing, reading, spelling, and problem solving about the topic as well.

These books are filled with activities, trivia, challenges, and STICKERS.  What kid doesn't love stickers.  The stickers are used in the book to complete pictures and studies.

These books from National Geographic are geared towards children ages 5-12.

You can order this and many others from Amazon by clicking here!  If you don't check out anything else I'm writing about today, check these out...they are so fun!  I guarantee your child will learn from them and love every minute of it. They are especially great to wind down before bed.  My little dude doesn't like bedtime much, but he likes it a little more now, since he can do a little "work" in his sticker book

That concludes my current favorite workbooks that make learning FUN!  I hope you will check these out.

When you gear your child's learning to what they already love, a love of learning happens.

Thanks for reading! :)

That Time My 9 Year Old Gave Me The Bird

An old Cherokee Indian, teaching his grandson about life...“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.  “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”   He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”   The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” A few months ago, I told my son (9) to go take out the trash. He didn't do it. In fact, almost every time I asked him to do it, he would "forget." When I found him outside, I said: "Hey, I told you to take out the trash." He got a bad attitude. Rolle...

Hey...Let's Catch Up

Hey guys.... I know I've been somewhat absent lately, and so, I want to take some time to catch up! Before I get into it all though, I want to say thank you to everyone who reads my blog... When I first started Crazies & Daisies, I did it as a hobby and for an outlet... I never saw it going anywhere and put off starting it for years because of the fear of  judgement... and failure...and more judgement  Once it took off though, I started letting you guys in more and more, and you kept on reading. Y'all are my inspiration, and my motivation to keep writing.  So Thank You! Now for the catching up... this is gonna be deep... I don't do shallow, I suck at sugar coating stuff, and most of all, I feel it is almost a calling of mine-- to be real with people. To let them in on my messy, unfiltered, unedited life. So here goes... Life has been full of highs and lows for the past several months. One big c...
