A Fun, Simple How-To: Making Slime!

The kids have been really interested in Science experiments lately. Which is awesome!  I love it!   I love when they want to learn.  So much learning happens when they become interested in something on their own and go with it.

It all started on YouTube.  We LOVE YouTube. In case you haven't gotten on the YouTube board yet, I'm letting you know you should! There is tons of educational content, plus mom vlogs have become one of my favorite pass times lately.  Lots of good stuff on good ole YouTube!

Anyways though-- back to the slime...  My oldest three were bored one day and decided to type "cool science experiments" into the search bar of YouTube.

After a bit,  they stumbled across someone making "homemade slime" and they were hooked.  They wanted to, HAD TO make it!

I was worried it would be a flop (like most of our science experiments) but to my surprise, it was quick, easy, and loads of FUN! Clean up was fairly minimal too!

We made slime on three different occasions!

I encourage you to make your own slime...even if you don't have kids.  Yes, it's that fun.
We chose to make each batch a little different (variables, ya know) First we tried it with white glue, then clear glue, and finally (my fav)  gel glue.  Although it was all just glue, the type used changed the consistency and texture of the slime!  Just for extra fun and giggles, we mixed a few optional ingredients as well.  For the white glue, we added in blue and green food coloring, which turned an awful, icky brown color, we called this slime "sewer sludge" it was quite disgusting looking! Which made it awesome to the kids! :) WIN!!!
In the clear and gel glue slime, we added different colors of glitter glue!  SO PRETTY!  Seriously, look at that slime sparkle!  My favorite was definitely the silver... the gold and red made pretty slime too.

Read on to learn how to make your very own, oooyyyy-goooooy-icky-slippery-slime

You will need:

(1) 4oz bottle of glue
4oz Water (we just used the glue bottle!)
1 Tsp. Borax Powder
1/2 cup of warm water

What you will do:

First you will need to gather your supplies! You need two separate mixing containers.  I recently found an awesome buy on Amazon.com for some plastic beakers. Kids love them! I supposed having some beakers makes them feel like--official, ya know. Like real-life scientists in action. :)  You can find them HERE!
Only $5.30!

But anything will do

SO...
First take the glue and empty it into one container, then fill the glue bottle with water and add it to the glue :)
Mix the two together.

THEN...
In the other container, pour in 1/2 cup of warm water, and add 1 teaspoon of Borax powder, and stir until the powder is dissolved.

                                       FINALLY...
Pour the glue mixture into the Borax mixture and BE AMAZED!  Instantly, the slime will start to form.... it's so neat!  The slime results because of the reaction between polyvinyl alcohol ( main ingredient in glue!) and borate ion (which you get from Borax!) The molecules of the glue is attracted to the molecules of the borate. When you mix them together they attract, fuse together, and form long chains....the chains multiply and multiply making more and more long molecular chains which result in---- slime!

Glitter glue/gel slime!
We waited until the end to add our additives such as food coloring or glitter glue....just smush it up good and it will be awesome!

Hope you enjoyed slime making 101!

That Time My 9 Year Old Gave Me The Bird

An old Cherokee Indian, teaching his grandson about life...“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.  “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”   He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”   The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” A few months ago, I told my son (9) to go take out the trash. He didn't do it. In fact, almost every time I asked him to do it, he would "forget." When I found him outside, I said: "Hey, I told you to take out the trash." He got a bad attitude. Rolle...

Hey...Let's Catch Up

Hey guys.... I know I've been somewhat absent lately, and so, I want to take some time to catch up! Before I get into it all though, I want to say thank you to everyone who reads my blog... When I first started Crazies & Daisies, I did it as a hobby and for an outlet... I never saw it going anywhere and put off starting it for years because of the fear of  judgement... and failure...and more judgement  Once it took off though, I started letting you guys in more and more, and you kept on reading. Y'all are my inspiration, and my motivation to keep writing.  So Thank You! Now for the catching up... this is gonna be deep... I don't do shallow, I suck at sugar coating stuff, and most of all, I feel it is almost a calling of mine-- to be real with people. To let them in on my messy, unfiltered, unedited life. So here goes... Life has been full of highs and lows for the past several months. One big c...
