DIY: Making a Chalkboard AND a Whiteboard on the Wall..... for under $50!

So, I'm really really loving the new chalk/dry erase board wall in our Dining Room!  Oh my how I love it!  It makes homeschool way easier and loads more fun for all of us! Plus, it's just pretty...and fun looking!  We all love it :)

The whole project from start to finish took about 3 hours (not including overnight drying for chalkboard) and was done for under $50!!!!! YAY!

If you want to learn how to DIY this awesomeness for your own space, read on!     :)

Materials You Will Need:

(1)8x4 Wall board-               $10.88 at Lowe's
(4)10ft sticks of Trim-          $5.44 per stick at Lowe's
(1) Pint of chalkboard Paint  $9.99 at Lowe's  (we had a lot left over)

Hammer
Nails

Optional:
Sandpaper
Saw

We purchased an 8x4 piece of wall board from Lowes, and had it cut in half at the store.  One half would serve as a dry erase board, the other to be painted with chalkboard paint for the chalkboard!
We also bought (4) 10ft sticks of white trim to frame them both in,  for a more finished look.

There was very little prep involved, but we did lightly sand the wall board that would be painted with chalkboard paint, as well as wiped both pieces with a wet rag.

shadows are shadowing....sorry 😩

Lightly sanded the piece of wall board that would be painted with chalkboard paint!

After sanding, I got right to work painting.  I found that it was best to paint in a "v" pattern to provide the best coverage.  I let each coat dry about 15-20 minutes before adding another.  All together, six coats of paint were used.

This is how the first coat of chalkboard paint looked!

While I was painting, the hubster cut the trim pieces to fit.  We opted for an angled edge.  Remember if you don't have a saw, you can have it cut at Lowe's or Home Depot for free  :)

Once I had slathered on the last coat of chalkboard paint, we were ready to hang the dry erase board.  Two people are needed for this part....one person to hold the board in place, while the other nails. We don't have a nail gun, or this project would've been even easier and speedier!

My handsome worker

We let the chalkboard dry over night, before hanging and "treating" it.  Which is just fancy for giving it a good rubdown with the side of a piece of chalk and erasing :)

TAAA DAAA!!!!!

Li Li's Bday was the next day 🎉
so she was the first to get to write on the whiteboard

All in all, The whole project took about 3 hours of our time and cost about $45 total!  It was a super fun project too!

Happy DIY-ing    :)

That Time My 9 Year Old Gave Me The Bird

An old Cherokee Indian, teaching his grandson about life...“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.  “It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”   He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.  The same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.” The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”   The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.” A few months ago, I told my son (9) to go take out the trash. He didn't do it. In fact, almost every time I asked him to do it, he would "forget." When I found him outside, I said: "Hey, I told you to take out the trash." He got a bad attitude. Rolle...

Hey...Let's Catch Up

Hey guys.... I know I've been somewhat absent lately, and so, I want to take some time to catch up! Before I get into it all though, I want to say thank you to everyone who reads my blog... When I first started Crazies & Daisies, I did it as a hobby and for an outlet... I never saw it going anywhere and put off starting it for years because of the fear of  judgement... and failure...and more judgement  Once it took off though, I started letting you guys in more and more, and you kept on reading. Y'all are my inspiration, and my motivation to keep writing.  So Thank You! Now for the catching up... this is gonna be deep... I don't do shallow, I suck at sugar coating stuff, and most of all, I feel it is almost a calling of mine-- to be real with people. To let them in on my messy, unfiltered, unedited life. So here goes... Life has been full of highs and lows for the past several months. One big c...
